Michael Holloman (AKA M. Yellowbear) is an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Indian Reservation, located in Northeastern Washington State. He is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Art at Washington State University (WSU) in Pullman, WA, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Native American Art History and the studio arts. Additionally, he serves as the Drawing Coordinator for the department and Coordinator for Native American Arts, Outreach and Education for the College of Arts and Sciences. In 2010, Michael was Director of the Plateau Center for American Indian Studies at WSU. Prior, he was the Director of American Indian Exhibits, Collection Management, and Educational Programming at the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture in Spokane, WA. He began his professional career in 1993 as an Associate Professor of Art at Seattle University.   ​

Michael maintains an ongoing commitment to Native American arts, culture, research and education. His scholarship has highlighted two well-known regional artists and their interaction with local tribes: Japanese immigrant photographer Frank Matsura (1873-1913) and abstract expressionist painter Clyfford Still (1904-1980). When he has time, he continues to paint and exhibit his artwork. He is a proud parent of two sons, a passionate yet mediocre golfer, a foreign film enthusiast, and a lover of short stories and non-fiction. ​
